How can I bully Orange into an upgrade?

I'm a newbie, and I'd like some help. Orange misled me, and won't upgrade me without charging a fortune. I need some tips on how to persuade them to be nicer to me ...

I've been a 3G Orange customer for just over a year. I'm on the Family Premier 900 Direct tariff (which actually gets me 1350mins because I also took a tenner a month family sim at the same time.) I have the following bundles: Frequent Traveller / Orange World Access 25 / Pay As You Use Data / Text 120 / Video Calling Promotion 60

My monthly bill is always in the region of £200-250.

About 2 months ago Orange called me and offered me an upgrade. So I dully acquiesced and swapped my 6680 (hated it) to a nice shiny black 6233 (love it). HOWEVER, this wasn't before asking them repeatedly if a new Pocket PC/3G enabled phone was coming out. I must've spoken to about 3 people about this before reluctantly agreeing to go ahead and upgrade. Silly me.

I've been a Pocket PC user for about 8 years. I use it extensively while on the road, and always said that whenever a 3G pocket PC based phone with the right formfactor came along, I'd make the jump. I didn't like the previous 3G folding pocket PC, it was too big for my purposes, so I went with the 6233 but now they've released the SPV M3100 I have to say it's perfect for me. Added to this is the fact that my trusty old Pocket PC has finally kicked the bucket. I could pay for another Pocket PC, but I'd rather have an integrated device, and I'd rather not pay for it


So I phoned Orange, told them about my problem and they don't want to know. They said it would cost £250 for an early upgrade plus £50 for the new device. This is despite them earning £250 a month from me! I realise this is all my own fault, I should've waited. Shouldn't have believed them when they said they didn't know what phones would come out, beyond what was already on the website.

So ... what tack should I take from here on in. I'm a (relatively) high value customer, I've just signed a new contract, I feel they should've told me to hold - off when the device I wanted was just round the corner. How do I threaten to leave my contract. Will that even work or will they just laugh at me. I may consider paying something for the upgrade but not £300 quid.

Any tips any of you have would be appreciated. My naivety comes from previously having a company phone for 10 years, where somebody else did all the shouting at orange!!
