Blackberry 8830

I'm thinking about making the switch from a Treo to the BB8830. Quick question though - I also plan to get Verichat so I can be on AIM and MSN - and I like it to always be on whenever the phone is on. On the Treo, after like 2-3minutes of inactivity, it'll disconnect itself from the EVDO/Broadband service. Does the Blackberry do the same or is it always connected to EVDO?
